Food engineering according to wikipedia "is a scientific, academic, and professional field that interprets and applies principles of engineering, science, and mathematics to food manufacturing and operations, including the processing, production, handling, storage, conservation, control, packaging and distribution of food products."

Food technology according to wikipedia "is a branch of food science that addresses the production, preservation, quality control and research and development of food products."

Food science according to wikipedia "is the basic science and applied science of food; its scope starts at overlap with agricultural science and nutritional science and leads through the scientific aspects of food safety and food processing, informing the development of food technology."

Food engineer responibilities can include doing research to develop new products, devloping new techniques or equipment for food processing, providing technical and marketing support to food manufacturing companies and developing solutions to various challenges arising in food manufacturing.

Wheat flour mill

Cereal processing, a significant topic of food engineering, includes wheat flour milling technologies. Cereal grains are complex and have three distinct parts: the bran, the endosperm, and the germ. The goal of milling is to remove the germ, or embryo, and separate the floury edible endosperm from the different branny outer coverings. Cleaning, tempering and conditioning, grinding, separating, milling, and blending are all steps in the process of wheat flour milling. Wheat flour milling is a significant sector of food engineering that produces flour for bread, cakes, biscuits, and other baked foods.

This website was constructed to provide you with a wide variety of resources in food engineering and cereal technology. Many of these topics are based on experience in research, my undergraduate students' projects and postgraduate students' theses.

If you are a food engineer working in the area of cereal technology or wheat flour milling technology you will find good articles that will support your career. If you are a student or an instructor involved in learning and teaching food engineering, you can find good publications and lecture materials for typical courses offered at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. You will find helpful links to departments of food engineering, association and companies that manufacture food industries machines.

Your feedback is important to me in preparing future additions to this website.
